BOOK NOW FOR YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO MEET THE WOLVES
Dakota Duma Alba
Come and join us in 2008 - Sat 4th Oct 2008 - early bookings ensure your place. We had a great time on the walk on Sunday 3rd August when we escorted the juvenile wolves out for a pack walk. It was fascinating to see their reactions to horses, dog walkers and the general countryside environment. We then returned to meet the other wolves and see their 2acre enclosures. Each of the 3 packs now has a male and 2 females and pack hierarchy was very evident. If you really want to understand your dog, you need to walk with these wolves and experience life as they do.
Wolf Walks for 2009 - Sat 7th Feb and Sun 5th April - a chance to see the wolves in Springtime - how will this affect their behaviour? Everyone should visit the wolves at least once and those of you who have been in the summer and autumn - a visit in Spring time is a must!!
6th October 2007 Group Photo of those lucky enough to meet and greet the younger members of the Wolf Pack team. - Don't miss your chance next year! 3rd September 2005 The weather forecast was wet but stayed dry and bright. Waiting for the arrival of the wolves in the wet & muddy Pennsylvanian woods wondering what was to happen. After the debrief, we stood apprehensively waiting to see the wolves…..
The meet and greet experience is fully supervised.
Being accompanied by knowledgeable staff from the wolf centre, enabled us all to ask vast & varied questions throughout the 2 1/2 hour walk. Afterwards, we returned to the centre, for some refreshments & shopping, we were off to see the rest of the wolves. Within the first of the three 2 acre enclosures we met 3 European wolves, more like you expect a wolf to be.
We
met Alba, a male who during June that year, had broken his neck ( a C2 fracture).
He was on his feet walking as if
“drunk”, an amazing story of dedication by the handlers and Vets
& the many various types of treatments, it was remarkable to see him on his
feet.
Again
loads
of fascinating facts before moving on to the last two enclosures which held the
4 North American Timber wolves. As
we walked away the totally wonderful sound, the wolves started howling,
something that you can not explain. Special
points of interest:
A Winter Walk For
those lucky enough to go for a 2nd time, this was, in some ways so different from
the 1st visit (apart from the weather). With the wolves leading the walk we were
off, but it soon became apparent that there seemed to be a bit of tension between
the two sisters. Apparently they were a few days away from being in season and
they were displaying pack status. They
looked so different in their winter coats, & more vocal. There are now 3 new members of the group - cubs in 2006, they are now fast developing into remarkable young animals who are helping to educate us about the their fascinating lifestyle. So a truly lovely afternoon with lots of fact and information for all. The gift shop is well worth a visit and if you are lucky you may hear them howling as you leave. Be sure not to miss your chance to meet and share a day with these magnificent animals. You wont look at your dogs in the same way again. If you would like to be invited to join our wolf walks,
then please contact your club instructor who will be able to tell you when our
next planned walks are or keep a watch on our website news page. Be sure you
don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to learn more about your
"wolf" in the living room. |
